Hay Fire at Nairne & Close Call at Eden Hills

Photo: CFS. A fire at a hay farm in Nairne has damaged a shed, neighbouring properties and a tractor.

Police are investigating two fire-related incidents during yesterday’s extreme fire danger conditions.

A hay farm fire at Pulleine Road, Nairne caused at least $85,000 in damages.

A shed, surrounding buildings and tractor were impacted by the blaze yesterday, Sunday 4 February. Areas of the township were blanketed in smoke during the incident.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire.


Fire danger at Eden Hills

A man in Eden Hills has been accused of using a flame weed killer on a total fireban day.

About 10.20am Sunday, police and CFS were called to a home on Shepherds Hill Road after a man was seen using equipment to burn weeds out the front of his property.

The man allegedly accidentally set fire to a small area of other vegetation on his property but was able to quickly extinguish it. There were no injuries or damage to property.

Police spoke to the 65-year-old, about fire danger season and fire ban days. He is likely to receive a $572 expiation notice.
