A new butcher in Mount Compass has been thrown a curve-ball just two weeks into trading after he had to throw out his stock due to a power outage.
Small Good Things Community Butcher and Providore was one of 12 businesses to be affected over the weekend, including the IGA.
Owner Kyle Hobbs said he was devastated to have to clear out his fridge after just starting up recently, on ANZAC Day.
“It happened overnight, it only got caught early in the morning but it’s one of those things that couldn’t be controlled, can’t dwell on it too much, just gotta get reset and rebuilt,” Kyle told ARN’s Jennie Lenman and Adam Connelly.
The shop is the first business venture for the former chef but he says he is finding his feet.
“It’s a bit daunting and a bit scary to open up a business but what it allows me is the opportunity to do what I’m passionate about and share it with people. It’s really about gratitude and being able to appreciate the small things in life and I think food is one of those things,” Kyle Hobbs said.
It is believed the outage was caused by a fuse drop out at a nearby Stobie pole, following vehicle damage.
