A remarkable charitable endeavour is underway in Mount Barker thanks to the generous work and contributions of many community members and 25 local businesses.

Construction of a luxury home is underway and is set to be auctioned off with no reserve set on 1 December 2024. All net proceeds from the Emerald Way Charity Home will go to Variety SA — the charity dedicated to helping children who are sick, disadvantaged or living with disabilities.

The land has been donated by Joe Belperio, Owner and Director of Emerald Way Mount Barker, who has named the home “The Amelie,” as a tribute to his daughter, Amelie, who died she was just three.

“Amelie’s passing left a void in our hearts… Creating this home in her memory allows us to transform our grief into a beacon of hope for other families. It’s our way of giving back to those in need as we know what it’s like to walk in their shoes,” Joe Belperio said.

Urban Edge SA is donating the build of this double-storey house with the help of tradies, contractors and personal contacts on board to assist in subsidising some of its costs towards materials and labour.

Greg Nybo, Century 21 SA Principal/Owner said he is delighted to help his friend Joe by bringing project contributors together, marketing and auctioning the house for Variety SA, and raising additional funds for the charity.

“Variety has supported over 85,000 children in the last 12 months and we want to contribute to that and we’re very excited to be in this position,” Greg Nybo told ARN’s Adam Connelly and Jennie Lenman this morning.

The home will be available for public viewing in November 2024 and auction set for December, with Tom Panos from Channel 9’s The Block as Auctioneer.
