Cancer Council SA are looking to regional footy clubs to help increase bowel cancer screening rates.
A $20,000 grant is up for grabs for footy clubs who join in on the ‘Lift Your Game’ initiative, with social media posts, flyers and other creative ways to raise awareness.
Prevention Programs Manager Diem Tran says they’re partnering with a key pillar of the community.
“Nothing quite brings the community together like football; it is where people connect and check in and look after each other,” Tran said.
“That’s why we really want to position clubs to take the lead and be on the front foot in trying to promote bowel cancer screening, rallying their communities behind them for a cause that really does matter.”
The Fleurieu, KI and Adelaide Hills are the most diligent in SA when it comes to bowel cancer screening, with the regions together having more than half their tests completed, however the 52% remains under the national target.
Clubs can learn more about ‘Lift Your Game’ and apply for the grant by Sunday 31 May at cancersa.org.au/liftyourgame.
