Serious and organised crime detectives have seized nearly $450,000 in cash during a vehicle stop in the Murraylands.
Police say officers attached to Operation Eclipse stopped a Victorian-registered Toyota sedan travelling east on the Princes Highway at Monteith about 4pm on Friday 19 June.
During a search of the vehicle, detectives located a shopping bag in the boot containing $447,750 in cash.
Police allege the money is suspected to be the proceeds of illicit tobacco sales in South Australia.
A 40-year-old man from Craigburn in Victoria was arrested and taken to Murray Bridge Police Station, where he was charged with money laundering.
He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.
Investigations under Operation Eclipse are continuing.
Anyone with information about the illicit tobacco trade is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at crimestopperssa.com.au or call 1800 333 000. All reports can be made anonymously.
