A popular camping destination in the Adelaide Hills has closed for the remainder of the 2026 camping season while urgent safety works are carried out.
The Rocky Paddock Campground at Mount Crawford has been closed due to the risks associated with ageing plantation pine trees at the site.
The trees are now more than 95 years old and have become increasingly vulnerable to severe weather, with recent tree failures creating an unpredictable risk to visitors.
ForestrySA says the decision has been made to remove the ageing trees and undertake a full redevelopment of the campground to improve safety and ensure it can continue to be enjoyed into the future.
All existing bookings will be cancelled and refunded within 72 hours, with school groups to be contacted directly to arrange alternative locations.
The removed timber will be processed through local sawmills and manufacturing industries for uses including structural timber, pallets and agricultural applications.
The campground has been a popular destination for generations of visitors to the Northern region of the Hills.
