The Adelaide Hills has been ranked the second most liveable region in Australia in a new national survey by insurance comparison company iSelect.
The Adelaide Central and Hills region recorded a liveability score of 68.78 out of 100, finishing just behind Sutherland in New South Wales on 68.96. The rankings were based on a mix of factors including employment, income, life expectancy, health services and overall wellbeing.
Sutherland (NSW) took the top spot, followed by Adelaide’s Central and Hills (SA), the Northern Beaches (NSW) coming in third followed by Baulkham Hills & Hawkesbury (NSW), and Inner Perth (WA) ranked fifth.
The report found liveability is shaped by a combination of lifestyle, environment and community factors, rather than a single measure. High-ranking regions typically offer strong work-life balance, access to green spaces, lower crime rates and good healthcare access.
The Adelaide Hills performed particularly well in work-life balance, with shorter average commute times and fewer people working long hours. Strong access to medical services also contributed to the region’s high score, alongside factors supporting mental wellbeing and social connection.
Several New South Wales regions dominated the top five, along with Inner Perth in Western Australia, with the Adelaide Hills the only South Australian region to feature.
