The Fleurieu Peninsula township of Willunga has been crowned Australia’s best destination for food and wine by Australian Traveller in their annual ‘100 Best Towns in Australia to Travel To’ list.
Willunga ranked number one in the Food and Wine category and seventh overall among the country’s top travel destinations.
The travel publication described the town as “the gateway to McLaren Vale”, praising its mix of “coastal beauty, historic streetscapes and deep connection to one of the country’s most celebrated wine regions.”
The Adelaide Hills also featured, with Hahndorf ranked 32nd nationally in the History and Heritage category.
Australian Traveller highlighted Hahndorf’s historic charm and enduring tourism appeal, with the town joining a strong list of South Australian destinations recognised across the country.
The recognition adds to a strong showing for South Australia overall, with 11 towns making the national top 100 list.
Other South Australian towns featured included McLaren Vale at number 49, Clare at 51, Coffin Bay at 66 and Tanunda at 72 in the Food and Wine category.
