A couple of local motorists could be in for some serious penalties following drink-driving offences over the past few days.

About 6.30pm last night, Sunday 28 April, police were called to Lobethal Road near Mill Road where they say a Holden ute had lost control and crashed into a stobie pole.

As the ute was still driveable, SAPOL alleges the driver took the ute home before getting another car and driving back to the scene. When police arrived they allegedly located a 52-year-old Woodside man clearing debris from the crash scene.

He was breath tested returning an alleged positive reading of 0.133. He was reported for drink driving and driving without due care and lost his licence on the spot for six months. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

The incident followed an arrest on the south coast on Friday, in which a local woman was driving while allegedly five times over the blood alcohol level.

A driver testing station was set up on Hutchinson Street at Goolwa on Thursday 25 April, when patrols attempted to stopped a vehicle at 5pm.  The driver allegedly ignored the direction to stop and drove around the site.

The vehicle stopped a short distance away and the driver, a 37-year-old Port Elliott woman, submitted to a breath test where police say she provided a positive reading of 0.278.

She was reported for drink driving and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.  She was also issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence and her car was impounded for 28 days.
