SAPOL’s eight-month focus on the Adelaide Hills has come to a close, with a staggering number of motorists caught speeding.
More than 52 speeding fines were issued per day during Operation Safe Hills, with almost 13,000 offences recorded in total.
29 motorists lost their licences on the spot for high-range speeding, coinciding with 66 serious injuries and six lives lost in that time across the Hills.
Additional officers and cameras were deployed to monitor roads in the region throughout the operation.
Superintendent Darren Fielke says while the operation may have ended, police will still be active to catch those doing the wrong thing.
“While the weather is still warm and the roads may be dry, it is very easy to come unstuck on these windy roads. Treat them with respect and obey the speed limit,” Supt Fielke said.
