Another interesting weekend of local footy saw all three leagues take different paths; the Hills had thrillers, the Great Southern had near-upsets and the River Murray had dominant pacesetters. Catch up on all the action here:
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)
Mount Lofty has dropped out of the top five in Division One of the Hills Footy League, after Blackwood beat them in a Round 12 thriller on Saturday.
Both sides kicked poorly but the Woods claimed the points that counted, winning by 4 (8.13 61 to 7.15 57) to move themselves into fourth on the table.
Uraidla Districts also took their chance to move into third, beating Lobethal by 28 (12.11 83 to 7.13 55), while Hahndorf took down Nairne Bremer by 19 points (16.14 110 to 14.7 91) in a high-scoring contest.
Over in the Country Division, their two top-four clashes were both classics in a terrific potential preview of the upcoming finals.
Kersbrook beat Macclesfield by 3 points in a Courier Cup classic (12.7 79 to 12.4 76) and Bridgewater pipped Kangarilla by 5 points at the Summit (11.14 80 to 11.9 75).
GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
Encounter Bay have missed a golden chance to edge ahead in the race for fifth, after they fell agonisingly short of an upset against Willunga on Saturday.
The Eagles lead by a point at three quarter time but couldn’t hold on against the home side, with the Demons pipping them at the post for a five-point win (10.6 66 to 9.7 61).
A much bigger upset almost happened as well, with the winless Goolwa/Port Elliot falling just nine points short of second-placed Myponga-Sellicks (12.9 81 to 11.6 72), while league leaders McLaren Districts kept rolling with a 39-point win against Langhorne Creek (17.10 112 to 11.7 73).
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
The top four of the River Murray Footy League is all but set with five rounds left to play, after the league’s best took care of business on Saturday in Round 13 play.
Fifth-placed Southern Mallee were cut further adrift after they lost by 33 points to Jervois (16.11 107 to 11.8 74), who held on second with a professional showing against the Suns.
Elsewhere, Mannum beat Mypolonga by 98 (19.17 131 to 4.9 33), Imperial also made light work of Tailem Bend to win by 80 (14.16 100 to 2.8 20) and Coorong Cats beat Rambler by 58 (13.15 93 to 5.5 35).
