Purpose-Built Reefs On The Way For Gulf St Vincent

Two artificial reefs will be established in Gulf St Vincent as part of the algal bloom recovery.

They’ll be installed along the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island to help provide healthier marine ecosystems over time.

Wirrina and Nepean Bay are known for kingfish, mulloway, snapper, squid and octopus.

A 12-month ban on fishing on those areas will come into effect once the reefs are installed.

Once open for recreational fishing, the Wirrina and Nepean Bay reefs are expected to become drawcards for anglers, delivering a boost to regional coastal community visitation, local economic activity and recreational fishing tourism in South Australia.
