Local Footy Wrap – 4th May

The pacesetters for our local leagues, both expected and unexpected, are starting to separate themselves after a month of footy in 2026. Catch up on all of Saturday’s action here:

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)

Onkaparinga Valley has stamped their credentials as a bonafide contender in 2026, after they beat an inaccurate Mount Lofty (9.11 65 to 2.10 22) in Round 4 of Division One of the Hills Footy League on Saturday.

The Dogs kicked seven of the last eight goals of the game to move into second on the table, marking the first time they are 3-1 after 4 rounds since 2012.

Elsewhere, Lobethal beat Hahndorf by 27 (11.5 71 to 6.8 44), Blackwood smashed Mount Barker by 68 (11.12 78 to 1.4 10) and Uraidla Districts kept Nairne Bremer winless in 2026 with a comfortable win (7.9 51 to 4.6 30).

Over in the Country Division, Kersbrook won their top-of-the-table matchup against Macclesfield (12.6 78 to 8.6 54), Kangarilla battled inaccuracy but still won by 20 (8.19 67 to 7.5 47) and Birdwood and Echunga won big.

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

McLaren Districts are the early team to beat in the Great Southern Footy League for 2026, after they remained undefeated with a 71-point win over Langhorne Creek (13.18 96 to 3.7 25) on Saturday.

Langhorne Creek were undefeated themselves but were no match for the Eagles, who pulled away early to move to first on the ladder. 

In other matches, Willunga won a tense 12-point arm-wrestle against Encounter Bay (8.6 54 to 6.6 42) and Yankalilla won their first game of the season with a 35-point win over Strathalbyn (10.10 70 to 5.5 35). 

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Jervois and Imperial are back in the top four of the River Murray Footy League, after winning their clashes against teams close to them on the table on Saturday.

The Bluds led from start to finish to beat Southern Mallee by 39 points in Lameroo (10.7 67 to 4.5 29), while the Double Blues blitzed Tailem Bend early on their way to a 78-point win (14.15 99 to 3.3 21).

Elsewhere, Mannum and the Coorong Cats both stayed undefeated with comfortable wins over Mypolonga and Rambler respectively.
