The Perseids are among the oldest recorded meteor showers, with observations dating back more than 2,000 years.
In Greek mythology, Perseus is the warrior who slayed Medusa and rescued Princess Andromeda, whose namesake constellation shares the sky nearby.
Thanfully no one has to worry about clear skies or timezones as NASA is letting anyone watch and chat during this event live!
NASA suggests grabbing a blanket and a snack to watch the 2026 Perseids meteor shower as Marshall is hosting this watch party live on YouTube as they watch from cameras set up at Marshall Space Flight Centre’s ALaMO.

The Automated Lunar and Meteor Observatory, which is also celebrating 20 years of discovery this year will allow anyone that joins the livestream to get sky views from the International Space Station.
Meteoroid experts from Marshall and guest subject matter experts will also join the event to discuss the science behind the Perseids and answer your questions in real time.
