Any day now Netflix please, god damn I’ve been waiting for years already and it’s still ages away!

Video game adaptations are on the rise and thank heavens the curse of awful video game adaptations are slowly disappearing (Not you Halo and Uncharted). But in the last two-years alone we’ve seen immense critical success from largely adored video games get their time to shine on the big and small screen alike. From The Last of Us, Fallout, Pokemon, Mario, Sonic, and many more on the way it’s a good time to be a gamer. But one with an enormous following that has been in the works for a few years now is finally starting to get some movement.

Just over two-and-a-half years ago the rights to the popular video game series, Gears of War, were acquired by media streaming titan Netflix, and ever since then things have been relatively radio silent. But it finally looks like they’re moving forward and have a story primed to go, The Hollywood Reporter has said that acclaimed Deadpool 2 director, David Leitch, is currently in negotiations to direct.

Right now writer Jon Spaihts (Dune & Doctor Strange) is penned to tell the tale of Marcus Fenix. Gears of War developer, The Coalition, are set to produce the film in a hands on capacity with fellow producers David Leitch and Kelly McCormick. When Phil Spencer, Microsoft Gaming Chief, was asked about the continued development of Microsoft games being adapted in other mediums he had this to say:

“We’re learning and growing through this process, which is giving us more confidence that we should do more… We learned from doing Halo. We learned from doing Fallout. So all of these build on themselves. And obviously we’ll have a couple that miss. But what I’d say to the Xbox community that likes this work is, ‘You’re going to see more, because we’re gaining confidence and we’re learning through this.’ ”

But besides the behind the scenes crew and the rights finding a home at Netflix, the big question on everyone’s mind is of course who will portray Marcus Fenix on screen? With a high variety of fan castings the one that currently sticks out the most is Dave Bautista, but that’s because no one has made it more abundantly clear he’s perfect for the role than himself. Bautista has campaigned for years and expressed time and time again how much he desperately wants this role, so much so that Gears of War co-creator, Cliff Bleszinski, weighed in on the matter and gave Bautista his seal of approval.

With no release date in sight and no confirmation of a production plan has been made, who knows how much longer we’ll have to wait before seeing Marcus Fenix on Netflix. Don’t hold your breath, but safe to say fans will be eagerly awaiting for more news on this one.

Now Amazon where the hell is my God Of War series damn it!
