Kayo Sports Price Increase: Entry Level Plan Going Up to $30 Per Month

This week we saw an extremely entertaining Monday AFL match between Melbourne and Collingwood and there’s no doubt I was happy to be able to watch it as it was an exciting game that came down to the wire, but as much as us Aussies love our sport, surely there is a limit to how much we are willing to pay for it?

Kayo Sports, one of Australia’s most popular sports streaming platforms, is increasing the price of its entry-level plan for the first time since its launch in 2018. The “Basic” plan is going up by $5, bringing the monthly cost to $30. Meanwhile, the “Premium” plan will remain at $40 per month.

This price hike comes at a time when many Australians are feeling the pinch of rising living costs. With Kayo being a go-to platform for live sports streaming, this change will impact a significant number of subscribers. Reports suggest that if half of Kayo’s subscribers are on the entry-level $25 plan, this price increase could generate an additional $48 million annually for parent company Foxtel, now under DAZN ownership.

Despite the increased cost, Kayo Sports continues to offer high-quality sports content that millions of Aussies rely on for live games, replays, and exclusive coverage. While many subscribers may absorb the price change due to their love for sport, it raises questions about how much more customers are willing to pay on their multiple streaming services before reaching a breaking point. Will something else have to go, or will there be a mass cancelation of this service.

ESPN is now available on Disney+ and world football is spread out across other platforms like Optus and BeIN Sports. How many services are we supposed to have to keep up with our favourite teams?

The $5 price increase impacts both new and current subscribers. Customers will be notified so expect to receive emails in the coming weeks about when the change will apply to your monthly billing cycle.
