Have you ever had your social medias hacked before? Frustrating isn’t it. It’s also so embarrassing when you have to tell people that it wasn’t really you trying to get all your friends to sign in to this pyramid scheme. Don’t feel alone though as it happens all the time, it can happen to anyone and I do really mean anyone. It could even happen to Elmo.
Yep, even Elmo, and that is exactly what happened. On the 13th of July, the Sesame Street icon sadly saw their X account fall victim to this very thing. Elmo’s account was taken over by an unknown hacker. Unfortunately though the hacker wasn’t looking to sell you a Cookie Monster themed pyramid scheme but instead used the platform to spread some disgusting posts with blatant racist and antisemitic themes.
The hacker has since been booted off the platform and the posts have now been deleted. A spokesperson for the page spoke out and has offered an update:
“Elmo’s X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts,… We are working to restore full control of the account.”
It’s okay Elmo. It happens to everyone.
