The Fleurieu Peninsula will soon be home to a world-class surf park and tourism destination, drawing in around 300,000 visitors each year.

Onkaparinga Council’s assessment panel granted planning consent for the Break Surf and Stay at Aldinga at Lot 3, Tuit Rd on Thursday.

The proposed $100m privately-funded 7.1ha precinct will include technology that can generate 2.1m waves, a surf academy, 35 villas, a wellness studio, retail, a rental store for equipment, a brewhouse and licensed restaurant, changerooms and parking facilities.

Onkaparinga Mayor Moira Were said it will be a family-friendly venue.

“There’ll be a little lagoon there, there’ll be activities for little ones as well, so the grommets who don’t necessarily want to get on the surfboard yet, mum and dad and the family can make sure they’ve got plenty of places to play as well, so it really will be a family-destination,” Mayor Moira Were told ARN’s Jennie Lenman and Adam Connelly this morning.

Native landscaping is also part of the plan, with more than 300 trees to be planted on site.

About 300 jobs will be created during construction and 60 full-time workers are expected to be hired to run the facility.

One building permissions are granted, work will start next year and it is expected to open mid-2026.
