Winter Whale Fest is underway on the South Coast, celebrating the majestic arrival of both Southern Right Whales and Humpbacks.
Festivities will be in full swing over the June long weekend, starting with the Winter Whale Fest Expo and Artisan Market on Saturday 8 June 2024.
This free event invites attendees to explore a diverse array of marine-themed stalls, enjoy live music, participate in workshops, and engage with local artists.
On Sunday 9 June 2024, the whale season will officially open with a Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony.
The ceremony is an immersive cultural experience allowing visitors to learn about the significance of Southern Right Whales to the local community, alongside the Ngarrindjeri and Ramindjeri Dreamtime story of Kondoli the Whale.
Following the ceremony, attendees can embark on a guided Kondoli tour, offering an in-depth exploration of these magnificent creatures.
