Warning Following Out of Control Burn Offs

Murray Mallee Police are urging residents to be aware of restrictions during the Fire Danger Season following two out of control burn offs over the weekend.

On Saturday 21 October, police were called to Waratah Avenue after reports of a person burning off weeds. The fire got out of control and was extinguished by MFS. The resident will receive an expiation notice for burning off within the town limits without a permit.

On Sunday 22 October, Police and fire crews were called to a home on Martin Road after a rubbish fire got out of control. Approximately five hectares of bushland was burnt before the blaze was brought under control by a number of CFS crews and farm firefighting units. The occupant will receive an expiation notice for not taking proper precautions while burning. .

Police would like to remind the public of their responsibilities and urge residents to check the fire danger ratings and weather conditions before conducting any burn offs.
