Photo Credit: Murray Bridge RSL Over 40 members of the Murraylands veterans community took part in the march on 20 August 2016 through the main street to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, fought in South Vietnam in 1966, along with the 10th/27th Band leading the procession.

Community members are invited to join in on a special commemoration of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War this August.

On Vietnam Veterans Day, Friday 18 August 2023, the Murray Bridge RSL is hosting a veterans march through Murray Bridge, followed by a service at the War Memorial and a RAAF flyover, before an afternoon tea at the Murray Bridge East RSL clubrooms.

Veterans and service personnel from across the Murraylands, from Meningie to Mannum, have been invited to join in on the march, which aims to honour and recognise their service and sacrifices.

From the time of the arrival of the first members of our troops in 1962, over 60,000 Australians, including ground troops and air force and navy personnel served. As a result of the war, 523 died and almost 2,400 were wounded.

As an event collaborator, we are encouraging as many residents as possible to join in on the service.

Local residents, school students, community groups, workers and business operators are all encouraged to come along to pay their respects and line the streets in an offer of support.

From 1pm on Friday 18 August 2023, marchers and a drum corps will depart from Diamond Park, along Adelaide Road, past the Bridgeport Hotel and on to the War Memorial at Sturt Reserve.
