Police are searching for the driver of a ute that rammed a patrol car during a pursuit through Mount Barker early this morning.

Just after 2.30am on Thursday, officers were called to a service station on Adelaide Road following reports of intoxicated patrons. When police arrived, they saw a man and a woman standing near a black Holden utility. The pair got into the vehicle and allegedly drove off quickly as police approached.

Patrols activated lights and sirens, but the ute allegedly failed to stop and sped off through Mount Barker. A short time later, the vehicle allegedly reversed at speed into a police car on Flaxley Road, causing significant damage. The officer inside was not injured, but the patrol vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

The ute was later found abandoned at the Mount Barker Showgrounds around 3.30am. Police dog teams searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.
