Thieves have been targeting the homes of community members from the Adelaide Hills who have been selling items on online marketplaces.

A seller at Birdwood recently provided their address to an interested buyer and had their bicycle stolen that night, according to Hills Fleurieu police.

A seller at Woodside advertised their motorcycles online and had them stolen too.

Similar thefts occurred in Harrogate and Mylor.

Investigations into these thefts are continuing.

Sellers are advised to be cautious about what details they provide online including in what information a photo can reveal about thier address.

Police suggest making an effort gather details about a potential buyer before meeting, meet buyers in public spaces (especially with CCTV cameras) and if the individual wants to test drive a vehicle, ask for identification.

Be conscious that fake internet banking records can be created so do not hand over items until you see the funds arrive in your account and if the buyer wishes to pay with cash, confirm they have money to pay.

“Sometimes the offenders are hoping to grab the items quickly and run- reducing their exposure and minimising the chance of being identified,” Hills Fleurieu police said in a statement.
