Two 14-year-old boys from the Adelaide Hills have been charged with arson, after a mid-afternoon blaze yesterday which destroyed a local Woolworths.

Emergency services were called to the Stirling Shopping Complex just after 2:15pm, after a fire started within the supermarket.

There no injuries reported, as all patrons and staff were evacuated safely from the centre amid explosions and plumes of smoke.

More than 20 appliances and 100 firefighters were required to control the fire, with the efforts of crews stopping the blaze from spreading to neighbouring businesses.

The CFS issued multiple advice messages throughout the afternoon urging locals to close their windows and doors, with smoke billowing across Druid Avenue, Milan Terrace and Johnston Street in particular.

The damage bill is estimated to be at $15 million dollars.

The two teens will face Mount Barker Youth Court at a later date, after being granted police bail.
