HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Hahndorf has claimed their ninth straight Courier Cup in Div 1 of the Hills Football League, with a commanding 40-point win (9.12 66 to 3.8 26) over Nairne Bremer on Saturday.
The Magpies kicked seven goals to one after quarter time to run away with the contest and remain undefeated for 2023.
In other matches, Mount Barker have closed their gap to the top five with a gritty low-scoring 12-point win over Onkaparinga Valley (3.5 23 to 1.5 11), while Mount Lofty, Uraidla Districts and Lobethal all picked up comfortable wins in tough conditions.
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Southern Mallee Suns have held their place at the top of the league, after seeing off a stern challenge from the Coorong Cats to win by 26 points (16.4 100 to 11.8 74).
Brett Pedersen led the way with four goals, while Rory O’Driscoll and Tommy Howard kicked three apiece.
In other matches, two other top three sides in Imperial and Jervois cruised to comfortable wins; the Double Blues beat cross-town rivals Rambler (17.11 113 to 2.8 20) and the Bluds beat Mypolonga (15.6 96 to 7.10 52).
Tailem Bend also claimed their second victory of the year in their bottom of the table clash, with a 43-point win over Mallee Districts (12.18 90 to 6.11 47).
GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
McLaren Districts’ winning streak rolls on, despite being behind at the main break again, with a 20-point win over Mount Compass.
The Eagles kicked seven goals to four in the second half to turn the tide, winning 12.15 87 to 10.7 67, and extend their winning streak to 28 games.
In other clashes from the round, Encounter Bay put a significant dent in Langhorne Creek’s finals chances with a surprise 27-point win (14.6 90 to 10.3 63), while Yankalilla took out their first win of the year with a 14-point win over Goolwa Port/Elliot (6.10 48 to 4.8 32).
Second-placed Myponga-Sellicks held off Strathalbyn to win by 18 (11.13 79 to 9.7 61), and Willunga cruised to a comfortable 36-point win over Victor Harbor (10.6 66 to 3.12 30).
