GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Yankalilla/Encounter Bay Stingrays are just one step away from completing a miraculous debut season, after they beat McLaren Districts in yesterday’s preliminary final.
The Stingrays were consistent and strong throughout to claim a 21-point win, setting them up for a clash with league powerhouses Willunga in Sunday’s grand final at Goolwa Oval.
The Demons will be aiming for their third straight title in their fourth consecutive grand final.
In the mens, Victor Harbor have announced their premiership credentials with a thumping 52-point win (16.14 110 to 8.10 52) over defending champions McLaren Districts.
The Roos kicked five goals to zero in a decisive third quarter to pull away from the Eagles, who have now lost three of their last five.
Second placed Myponga/Sellicks avoided an upset of their own with a 11-point win over an inaccurate Encounter Bay (9.8 62 to 6.15 51). while Langhorne Creek closed the gap between fifth and sixth with a thrilling 5-point win over Mount Compass (7.11 53 to 6.10 46).
Other matches saw Willunga (26.15 170 to 1.4 10) and Strathalbyn (33.18 216 to 3.5 23) put enormous scores on the board to thump bottom-two sides in Yankalilla and Goolwa/Port Elliot.
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Nairne Bremer have sent a statement to the Division One sides in the Hills Football League, after a 92-point thrashing of the third-placed Onkaparinga Valley on Saturday.
Darcy Hourigan and Archer Connolly kicked 12 goals between them to help the Rams to a big win (20.14 134 to 6.6 42), which keeps them in second and moves the Dogs down to fourth.
Mount Lofty won their top five clash with Uraidla Districts by 18 points (9.12 66 to 7.6 48), while league leaders Hahndorf sent a statement of their own with a brutal 195-point win over Ironbank-Bridgewater (37.17 239 to 6.8 44).
Other matches saw Blackwood scrape past Lobethal in a 5-point thriller (11.9 75 to 10.10 70), while Mount Barker easily beat Echunga (17.16 118 to 4.1 25).
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Coorong Cats have opened up the River Murray finals picture, with a surprise 30-point win over defending champions Imperial in Round 15 action.
Sam Sanders kicked six for the Cats as they never looked in trouble, with Mark Ploenges and Alex Stidiford leading the way for Coorong in their dominant display (16.10 106 to 12.4 76).
Other matches saw Southern Mallee hold onto top spot with a 36-point win over Mypolonga (13.9 87 to 7.9 51), and Rambler and Jervois tallied comfortable wins.
