There’s a new premier in the Hills Womens Football League, the Hills Country Division finals got off to an exciting start and the top fives are now set in the rest of the leagues. Catch up on all the action here:
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Blackwood Green have claimed the 2023 Hills Womens Football League premiership, with an emphatic 43-point win (8.4 52 to 1.3 9) over Mount Lofty yesterday in Uraidla.
The Woods were comfortable and clinical in clinching their second premiership in four years, with Zoe Venning named best afield following her impressive command of the game.
The Mens’ Country Division finals also got underway on Saturday, with Kangarilla’s come-from-behind 16 point win (16.11 107 to 12.19 91) over Torrens Valley in the elimination final taking the headlines.
Meadows made light work of Macclesfield in the qualifying final (14.21 105 to 6.4 40), setting up a mouth-watering second qualifying final with Gumeracha next Saturday.
Division One’s final round of the regular season was one to savour for Nairne Bremer’s Darcy Hourigan, who brought up hundred goals for the season in their comprehensive win over Mount Barker (24.20 164 to 4.5 29).
Uraidla Districts managed to squeeze into third place after a 13-point win over Onkaparinga Valley (14.9 93 to 13.2 80) in Balhannah, moving Mount Lofty to fourth despite their huge win over Echunga (22.17 149 to 8.6 54).
It means Uraidla Districts will play Nairne Bremer in the first qualifying final in Heathfield, and Mount Lofty will face Onkaparinga Valley in Nairne for the elimination final.
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Southern Mallee have claimed the minor premiership in the River Murray Footy league by the narrowest of margins in an extraordinary final round of the regular season on Saturday.
Jervois managed to beat Rambler by 102 points (18.16 124 to 3.4 22), but fell just six hundredths of a percentage point short of the top spot (65.28% vs 65.22%) after the Suns beat Mannum by 67 (18.10 118 to 8.3 51).
It means the Bluds will play Imperial in the qualifying final next weekend and Coorong Cats will face Mypolonga in the elimination final.
GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Great Southern finals series is set to be a memorable one, with the top four sides entering in good form after taking care of business in the final regular season round on Saturday.
Myponga/Sellicks proved the most by holding off fellow finalists Mount Compass by 14 points (9.11 65 to 8.3 51), while Willunga, McLaren Districts and Victor Harbor all cruised to comfortable wins.
Next week’s lineup will see the Mudlarks play the Roos in the qualifying final, while the Demons will face the Bulldogs in the elimination final.
