GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The Great Southern Womens’ leagues have a dynasty on their hands, after Willunga claimed both the Womens and Under 17 girls grand finals yesterday at Goolwa Oval.
Both sides only lost one game all year before taking the titles out, with yesterday marking the third straight year Willunga has won both grades.
The women’s side beat Yankalilla/Encounter Bay 6.8 44 to 1.2 8, while the Under 17’s defeated Victor Harbor 6.12 48 to 2.1 13.
Willunga’s men’s side were on the other end of their result, with Strathalbyn providing the upset of the round in a two-point thriller (7.12 54 to 7.10 52).
Other results from the mens saw the rest of the round go to plan for the favourites, with four of the top five getting wins.
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Blackwood’s finals hopes have been ended in extraordinary fashion, after they drew their clash with Onkaparinga Valley in Round 16 Division One action in the Hills Football League.
The Woods and Dogs were neck and neck all day in a low-scoring scrap, fittingly sharing the points (5.9 39 to 5.9 39) but knocking Blackwood out of contention.
Other matches from the round saw the rest of the top five take out wins against their bottom five opponents.
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The River Murray top five is now locked in with two rounds to play, after the Coorong Cats comfortably beat Rambler (13.19 97 to 4.7 31), and Mypolonga thrashed Mannum (18.14 122 to 5.1 31) in Round 16 action on Saturday.
The Roosters were never in their clash with Cats, and the 66-point loss means they’ll need the most unlikely of fortnights to make the finals.
The Tigers did their part with ease to confirm their place in the top five, with Jack Kluske and Nick Hombsch kicking 10 goals between them in their 91-point win.
