Round Five Footy Wrap – 13th May

Contenders in Mount Barker, Langhorne Creek and Mypolonga have stood firm under pressure on Saturday as part of Round Five action. Catch up on all the action here:

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)

Division One in the Hills Football League has tightened up after Round Five play on Saturday.

Mount Barker’s 19-point win over Mount Lofty saw them switch positions in second and third, while defending champions Nairne-Bremer kickstarted their season with a 53-point win over Lobethal. 

Echunga also won their first game of the season, after wiping a 15-point half-time deficit to beat Blackwood by 12. 

Over in the Country Division, Meadows have taken out their grand final rematch with an inaccurate Gumeracha, winning by 15 despite having five less scoring shots. 

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Langhorne Creek has kept themselves in third, and further piled on the pain for Willunga, after claiming a 6-point thriller in Round Five action of the Great Southern Footy League on Saturday.

The Demons kicked inaccurately and paid the price, as the Hawks came from 11 points down at three quarter time to sneak home. 

Willunga are now still yet to win a game in 2024, having made the last three grand finals. 

The rest of the round was defined by blowouts, with three of the other four matches with margins of more than 100 points.

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Mypolonga have moved into the top three in the River Murray Footy League, after holding off Tailem Bend in an entertaining Round Five match on Saturday.

Despite both sides sitting at opposite ends of the table, the Tigers and Eagles traded blows in a shootout before Mypolonga finished strongest to win by 20 points. 

Other matches from the round saw Southern Mallee rebound with a 30-point win over Mannum, Imperial beat Rambler by 46 and Jervois cruised past Mallee Districts to win by 52.
