Representative netball players in the River Murray region will no longer have to pay to compete, thanks to what’s being hailed as the biggest private sponsorship deal in the sport’s local history.

More than 50 junior players from the River Murray Netball Association will take part in the 2026 representative carnival season without fees, after a three-year partnership was secured with Commshake Media & Engagement, the Murray Bridge Community Club and Murray Computers.

RMNA president Emma Swan said removing cost barriers was a “monumental opportunity” for the future of the sport.

“This is amazing news for the River Murray Netball Association, and especially those young players who want to compete at a higher level,” she said.

“In recent decades, we’ve seen major investment into sports such as football and soccer, but netball has been left behind – even though it’s Australia’s number-one sport for female participation. This investment starts to change that.”

Players have previously paid up to $200 in fees, plus other costs, to take part in representative competitions.

The new deal covers player uniforms, carnival registrations, equipment and other expenses.

Commshake owner Courtney Blacker said supporting girls in sport was a priority for her business as it marks 10 years of operation.

“It’s been a lifelong frustration of mine that netball, the most played sport of women and girls in Australia, is so remarkably underfunded and undervalued,” she said.

“Now… we’re putting our money where my mouth is and making sure these kids can play at a higher level, without the financial stress on their families.”

The announcement will be made to families and players last night at training in Tailem Bend.

Daish Irrigation & Fodder continues as RMNA’s Platinum Sponsor.
