Parking woes in the popular Hills tourism town of Hahndorf could be reduced in future following a move from the Mount Barker Council to purchase of land for a carpark.

Council has bought a 4,100 sqm piece of prime land at the Verdun end of the main street for $2.3 million with an aim to build 88 to 95 parks, at an estimated cost of between $750,000 to $925,000.

An existing building on the land could be retained for retail or commercial lease opportunities.
