Murray Bridge Librarian Tim Law has become an international author after a Californian company has published his novel “Murdle Notton’s Guide to World Domination”.
The short fictional tale has been written in the style of Law’s favourite author, the late English humorist Terry Pratchett.
“It’s typical fantasy /parody; you’ve got the bad guy, you’ve got the good guy, you’ve got the cast of thousands, the fantasy setting, the mysterious world, all the elements of what a fantasy is supposed to be are in there but they’re all flipped on their head,” he said in an interview with ARN’s Adam Connelly and Jennie Lenman.
It follows the May 2023 release of his children’s fantasy book “The Neighbor”; a cautionary tale about a boy who meets a strange magical creature in his backyard.
Law says he’s been inspired by fantasy novels of his youth.
“My mum introduced me to C.S. Lewis and the Narnia series. My year 6 teacher introduced me to The Hobbit and I think the combination of those two; there was no hope for me after that,” he said.
He said the latest book would not have been possible without the arduous experience of writing and self-publishing his first book “The Eleventh Tome” in 2015.
“I decided that I was sick and tired of getting all the rejection letters from the major publishers and a writer friend on a social site said ‘why don’t you self-publish’?,” he said.
“The doors that it opened by self-publishing a book, the connections that I had internationally with other authors and support groups and that sort of thing, it all started with that.”
Now Dark Myth Publications in the United States has thrown its weight behind Law’s latest books. Law is expecting to write a follow-up to the children’s book in the near future.
