A long awaited silo art project in Murray Bridge has been cancelled.

The plan for Vitera’s silo at Hume Reserve Road to feature a mural of a father and daughter fishing together by artist Sam “Smug” Bates will not go ahead following a disagreement with the State Government.

Even though Vitera had agreed to support the Council-led project which had Federal support and $88,500 in funding, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has indicated it will not come to the party.

Councillors were briefed on Monday that DIT refused to sign a licensing agreement as Viterra leased the silo site on a month-to-month basis and a lack of long-term security would mean the lease could end at any time and the silos could be demolished.

At Monday night’s meeting, councillors agreed to aim to repurpose the remaining federal funding by commissioning a series of murals across the RCMB central business district.
