Recent Westpac data has revealed Murray Bridge as one of South Australia’s leading scam hotspots.

The 5253 postcode recorded the fourth highest number of scam reports across the state in the past year, sitting behind Morphett Vale, Salisbury and Gawler. Seaford rounded out the top five.

Nationally, Sydney’s CBD topped the list, followed by Liverpool in western Sydney and outer Melbourne suburbs including Tarneit, Werribee and Craigieburn.

Westpac’s Head of Fraud Prevention Ben Young says scammers continue to cast a wide net, from fake investment schemes to online shopping traps, and are constantly adapting their tactics.

While overall losses to scams are declining, investment scams, business email compromise, impersonation and romance scams remain the biggest causes of financial harm.

The release of the figures coincided with Scams Awareness Week, with Westpac encouraging Australians to take extra care when clicking links, paying invoices or sharing personal details online.
