Murray Bridge support worker Kai Martin, 26, is getting ready to run an ultra-marathon to raise awareness of domestic violence in the community and raise money for a local support charity.
The plan is to tackle the 325km run non-stop over about 55 to 60 hours and raise about $25,000 for the Murray Bridge Regional Collaboration on Violence Against Women and Children.
So far more than $19,100 has already been raised for victim support, community education and awareness of the cause.
The keen endurance runner is starting on the Lavender Federation Trail in Clare at 3am on Friday 23 May and aims to be back in Murray Bridge for a community BBQ event on Sunday 25 May afternoon the Place of Courage in Sturt Reserve. Kai is due to arrive sometime between 1-3pm that day.
“Domestic Violence is an issue I’ve been aware of since a young age, and I’ve always felt the need to do something big to help my community around it,” Kai Martin said.
While he says he was lucky to grow up in a safe environment, it was not always the case for other family members who have experienced domestic-violence related trauma.
Kai has only started running in the past two years and the longest run he has done was December 2024 when he ran 161km in 22 hours.
