Adults and children with mobility challenges will be included in Monarto’s up-and-coming new safari fleet.
Thanks to a $215,000 grant from Variety SA, there’ll be an accessible vehicle for those keen to roam across the park’s Wild Africa area in the future.
The bus can accommodate up to five wheelchairs alongside six seats, while boasting a rear internal wheelchair lift, air conditioning and other customisations to meet specific accessibility needs.
The public can get an early glimpse of the vehicle at the Vailo 500 in Adelaide tomorrow, where it will do a lap of the Victoria Park tarmac.
Zoos SA Chief Executive Elaine Bensted says it’s another step in the right direction for including everyone in their experiences.
“We look forward to welcoming our new visitors to the ‘Variety SA on Safari’ bus and are grateful to Variety SA for its ongoing support and interest in Zoos SA,” Bensted said.
“It is the largest safari experience outside Africa and encountering it first-hand can only add to anyone’s enjoyment and learning.”
