The owners of a shack on the River Murray are demolishing their holiday home this week following devastation from the summer floods.

Brennan Medhurst and his partner Leanne Parkinson only bought and renovated their property ‘Bolshack43 Riverfront Mannum’ two and a half years ago.

“We’d only just retired and loved coming up to Mannum. We invested in the shack, we used it and rented it out as well, obviously to pay the mortgage, hence Leanne’s social media, she was in charge of that and she did a great job, we had quite a few people rent it out and enjoy it… but its a disaster now and getting demolished this week,” Medhurst said in a radio interview this morning with ARN’s Jennie Lenman and Adam Connelly.

On Facebook, dozens of people have reached out to wish the pair all the best in rebuilding, many saying they enjoyed staying at the property.

“We did have insurance but not as much as you’d like, in retrospect, but we will rebuild. Leanne’s got a background in the building industry and is quite good at design and that sort of thing, so yeah, there’ll be a really nice place coming up, the location’s the same, we’ve still got a great jetty,” Medhurst said.

Leanne Parkinson said she is looking forward to the challenge and coming back bigger and better than ever.

“We are excited to be designing our custom holiday home to cater to a wide variety of renters including families, high end guests and will also be wheelchair friendly. We will regularly post updates with our progress,” Parkinson said in a message to us.
