A Murray Bridge man will face court today after being arrested over a series of small fires along the riverbank yesterday afternoon.
Just after 2.30pm, on Sunday the 2nd of November, police and CFS crews were called to a grass fire near Pump Road in Murray Bridge. While crews worked to contain it, reports came in of several more fires being lit nearby.
Officers searched the area and arrested a 51-year-old man who allegedly tried to run from the scene. It’s alleged he also threw a rock at CFS crews while they were working to extinguish a fire.
He’s been charged with lighting a fire in fire danger season, hindering police, disorderly behaviour, and throwing a missile.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court today, Monday the 3rd of November.
The arrests come as fire danger season begins across the Murraylands and Upper South East, with authorities reminding residents to be bushfire ready.
