Long Weekend Sports Wrap – 11th June

Local footy’s best of the best battled it out as part of interleague matchups in Murray Bridge and Christies Beach, while our regions’ finest netballers starred at the Netball SA Country Championships. Read about it all here:

The Hills Football League have dominated their interleague fixture with the River Murray on Saturday, with all three grades tallying comfortable wins in Murray Bridge.

The Under 16’s and Under 18’s for the Hills both got the day started with 45 and 51 point wins respectively, before the seniors pulled away in the second half to avenge their loss last year, eventually winning by 23.

Mount Lofty’s Jake Aish was named best on ground for the seniors after kicking three goals.

The Netball SA Country Championships produced a mixed bag for our regions’ best netballers over the long weekend, with the Hills Netball Association’s juniors leading the way.

The Under 11’s, 13’s and 17’s all claimed their respective titles, with them all beating sides with more wins than them during the pool stage.

The rest of the weekend saw a run of silver medals for our local talent, with the Great Southern seniors and under 17’s, and both River Murray Under 15 sides, all falling in their grand final matches.

The Southern Football League have taken overall honours in the interleague fixture against the Great Southern on Saturday, capping off an enthralling day of footy at Christies Beach. 

It culminated with a shock result as the Southern Mens’ finally beat their Great Southern counterparts to upset them by 23 points. 

Earlier, the Great Southern women continued their dominance in their matchup with a 16-point win, while the Southern juniors claimed two of the three clashes.
