The Murray Bridge Little Athletics Club is fundraising to get out of their makeshift shipping containers and into new purpose-built facilities.

Club Coach, Registrar and Recorder Amanda Martin has told ARN’s Jennie Lenman and Adam Connelly this morning the team has been in less than ideal circumstances since Murray Bridge High School bulldozed their facilities in late 2020.

“When the year 7s were under new development, when they were going into the high school, all the secondary schools around the area had to redevelop to make more room, so unfortunately our equipment shed wasn’t in their future plans so that was demolished and we’ve been working out of shipping containers,” Amanda Martin told ARN’s Jennie Lenman and Adam Connelly.

“Half of our gear has to be stored off-site as well and unfortunately our canteen has to be set up and pulled down for each event. It’s a bit higgledy-piggledy at the moment, but hopefully with some extra fundraising that the committee and the athletes are putting in we can actually eventually get a new equipment shed and canteen.”

The club will be fundraising at the Murray Bridge Show this Friday and Saturday, selling Bunyip trail bags and drinks at Pete’s Drink Shed. Following popular demand in 2022, the number of trail bags has been increased to 250 this year.

Murray Bridge Little Athletics Club was established over 40 years ago and since then has been inspiring and teaching children and teenagers aged 3 to 17 to learn the fundamentals of all sports and benefits of being active.

Their 2023/24 season starts soon with Come’n’Try dates on Sunday 24th September and Sunday 15th October, held at Murray Bridge High School at 9.30am.

More information on our season and the club can be found on the Murray Bridge Little Athletics Inc Facebook page.
