The Ironbank Cherry-Gardens Thunderers are now officially a part of the Southern Football League, after the SANFL granted approval for their move.

It was the final step in a lengthy process to move out of the Hills Football League, which it has been a part of since 1986.

The move away follows a tumultuous 12 months for the club, which included a failed merger with Bridgewater-Callington and just three wins across both seniors grades.

The first club AGM within their new association has been announced for tomorrow night.

The SFL opened its arms to the Thunderers’ application last month, with the league to now have 10 sides and avoid a bye round in 2024.

Division 1 in the Hills Football League however will be reduced to 9 sides, with the league yet to comment on the makeup or scheduling of the 2024 season.
