Ironbank-Cherry Gardens FC Welcomed By SFL Clubs Ahead Of Association Switch

Ironbank-Cherry Gardens’ move away from the Hills Football League is almost complete, with the Southern Football League opening its arms ahead of SANFL approval.

All nine clubs in the SFL voted to bring in the Thunderers last week, who internally voted to leave the HFL after a tumultuous 12 months.

Club President Brandon Chaplin fronted the SFL board at the South Adelaide Football Club to explain their application, which had been initially discussed as early as August.

The league change will see the Thunderers leave the HFL after 37 years, having started as a team formed by dissatisfied players from other clubs in 1986.

Their last season in the HFL was one to forget, with their failed merger with Bridgewater-Callington only yielding two wins across the A and B grade seasons.
