Ironbank-Bridgewater-Cherry Gardens FC Merger No More

The merger between Hills Football League sides Ironbank-Cherry Gardens and Bridgewater-Callington has been voted against, following a special general meeting on Monday night.

Members of the Bridgewater-Callington arm chose to move away from the merger, which has been in place under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for this season.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday afternoon, the Ironbank-Cherry Gardens Football Club page stated that they “believe their members have voted to retain the identity of the Bridgewater Callington Raiders Football club by essentially running a moddies/junior only football club.”

They went on to thank everyone who tried to make the merger work, which spans from players to sponsors, club officials and volunteers.

The Thunderers’ have had a rough season in Division One of the Hills Football League, with the merged side only winning two games total across the A grade (1-14, 31.80%) and B grade (1-14, 25.39%).
