Carrickalinga in the Fleurieu Peninsula has received certification as an International Dark Sky Community.
Darksky International has endorsed the small coastal town as one of 210 places in the world to stargaze as there is very little light pollution.
The night sky is easy to see as the town has few street lights, is far enough away from the glow of Adelaide and is separated by hills.

The River Murray region also has internation certification as a Dark Sky Reserve, spanning over 3,200 square kilometres.
