South Australia is preparing for dry and warm conditions which could carry a higher risk of bushfires, with an El Niño event and positive Indian Ocean Dipole on the way.

Before summer arrives, South Australians living in risk areas are being urged by authorities to prepare a bushfire survival plan and to clean up around the property.

Landowners are being asked to cut down grass, undergrowth, low tree branches and remove fuels from around the property now to make the land less prone to catching alight during a bushfire.

As it is too late to plan once an emergency warning is issued, residents are being asked to consider what they will do when a bad fire day approaches – including where they will go, when they will leave and what they will take.

It is advised the whole household is involved in the plan, including animals and pets, and that young people are empowered to know what to do in an emergency.

Check the Fire Danger Ratings each day and stay informed using multiple sources of emergency warning information.
