The recently upgraded Victor Harbor Oval will play host to an historic occasion for the SA Country Footy Championships on July 12.

A Friday night doubleheader has been announced between South East and Eyre Peninsula, marking the first time in its 30-year history that there has been a night game.

It offers a different opening to the weekend tournament, which again sees six zones battle it out across Mens and Womens divisions in Victor Harbor and Encounter Bay.

The Round 14 SANFL League regional match is also expected to be an attraction, with South Adelaide to host North Adelaide in the Panthers’ regional zone at Victor Harbor Oval on Saturday afternoon.

SANFL Head of Community Football Shawn Ford says it’s more than just a footy carnival.

“It is now regarded as one of the largest regional sporting events on the SA calendar, providing a fantastic social and economic boost for the entire host region, while also showcasing some of the best regional football facilities in the State.”

“The Championships are a great opportunity to celebrate all the great things we love about country footy and leave a lasting legacy for everyone involved.”

The City of Victor Harbor has also welcomed the announcement for an elongated tournament, stating the economic impact from the last country championships in the region was approximately $1.25m back in 2021.
