A popular farm firefighter unit grant program is back after a successful first round, with broader eligibility criteria.

A State Budget 2022-23 commitment of $2 million over four years, Farm Firefighting Units (FFUs) grants allow landowners to purchase equipment to improve community safety and capability to respond to fire emergencies.

The fund will reimburse successful applicants who spend between $200 to $3,000 (GST inclusive) on new, fit-for-purpose equipment.

After consulting with community and key stakeholders following last year’s launch, the State Government has expanded eligibility to include regional landholders and community groups.

This will allow for the purchase of tanks, pumps, hoses, protective equipment and smaller items such as good quality first aid kits and UHF radios.

Round One of the RCCF FFU grant program received 1,247 applications across 48 local council areas, for a total equipment value of over $4.5 million. In total, 276 applications were successful.

For this round, once an application is approved, successful applicants must ensure their FFU is registered with the CFS to receive reimbursement.

How to apply, guidelines and further information can be found at https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au/plan-prepare/business-farms/farm-fire-units/.
