The Summit Sports and Recreation Park has again impressed as part of the AFL Gather Round over the weekend, with two sold-out games bringing the masses to the Adelaide Hills.

More than 9000 people attended both matches across Saturday and Sunday, with the Swans holding off the Eagles by 26 points and the Giants surging away from the Suns to win by 28.

The venue was handed the additional responsibility of a second game after a successful inaugural event in 2023, while the Barossa Council prepared their preferred site for a match, or matches, next year.

The State Government this morning announced that Lyndoch Recreation Park will receive a $40 million dollar upgrade ahead of next year’s event, with some experts expecting the Barossa to take Mount Barker’s games away in favour of a new flavour.

High praise was given to the Summit for the second year in a row however, with GWS Head Coach Adam Kingsley saying it was hard to concentrate considering the backdrop.

“It’s a pretty ground. It’s great down here in Mount Barker,” Kingsley said in his post-game press coneference.

“The facilities, the pop-up rooms; they serve a great purpose and the staff did a terrific job. It’s very picturesque; with the hills in the background it’s hard not to get distracted.”
