The CFS and supporting agencies have battled tough conditions and difficult-to-access land to contain a grass and scrub fire in Fisher near Swan Reach this afternoon.

The fire is believed to have been started from lightning strikes in the area earlier today, with the CFS first reporting their involvement just after midday.

A Watch and Act was issued at 4:30pm as conditions changed, with changing wind directions posing a threat to the Punyelroo township.

The message was downgraded to an Advice warning approximately two hours later, however authorities at time of publishing (7pm Wednesday) are urging locals in the Punyelroo and Swan Reach areas to remain alert.

Approximately 30 firefighters from the CFS and the National Parks and Wildlife Services SA were on site, with the support of five water bombing and two observational aircraft.

Heavy machinery was also used to allow firefighters access to the fire edge, so that they could work to stop the spread of the fire.

The CFS have also advised that the fire will be causing smoke in the area, and members of the community are urged to take care, particularly if driving through the general area.
