Residents across the Murraylands, Riverland and Upper and Lower South East now have a date to work towards for their bushfire preparations, with the Fire Danger Season to begin on the 1st of November 2026 and run through to the 30th of April 2027.

A permit is required for most burning activities during the Fire Danger Season, or on days when a Total Fire Ban is declared.

CFS Director Community Risk and Resilience Alison May said increased fuel loads had been observed across the state and urged residents to prepare now.

“Even as we approach the start of the Fire Danger Season, it’s important to remember that fires can happen at any time and people need to be bushfire ready,” she said.

Residents are being encouraged to clear gutters, remove fallen branches and debris, and move flammable materials away from their homes.

The CFS also recommends households make or review a Bushfire Survival Plan, including ensuring everyone understands what to do in an emergency.

A five-minute bushfire plan is available through the CFS website.

What about Adelaide and the Hills?

The start date for the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Fire Ban districts have not yet been announced.

Dates are also still to be confirmed for the Kangaroo Island, Mid North and Yorke Peninsula.

The CFS says there will be an announcement in the coming weeks following further consultation with local Bushfire Management Committees.

The Fire Danger Season is already underway in several other parts of South Australia, including the Eastern Eyre, Flinders and pastoral districts, where it began on the 15th of October.
